The role:
You will be working with the Group Leader and the Senior Team to support the application of health and safety policies and procedures within the organisation.
You will also provide a professional health and safety consultancy service to clients and to project teams, by working with them to meet their responsibilities under H&S Legislation, CDM Regulations and wider industry guidance. You will also be required to lead in the delivery of services Principal Designer services, Principal Designer Advisor services and Client CDM Advisor services in accordance with the requirements of CDM 2015. Identifying and managing design related risks within design teams and health and safety risks on construction projects.
What youll be doing:
- Manage projects with minimal supervision (albeit support always available where required). This might include projects of a more complex nature.
- Perform Principal Designer duties in accordance with the requirements of CDM 2015. Identifying and managing design related H&S risks within design and construction.
- Lead on the delivery of Client CDM Advisor services
- Provide health and safety consultancy services to Clients.
- Lead on the delivery of site H&S inspection services
- Be seen within the wider business as a deliverer of sound H&S advice.
- Prepare and deliver relevant presentations and updates to Clients and the wider business
- Understand and manage risk. Both project related H&S risks as part of our service and our own risk as consultant.
- Ensure our work complies with our appointment and project brief , that any changes to our appointment are recorded and that client decisions are recorded and auditable should key project decisions be questioned.
- Undertake various admin/clerical tasks with regards to day to day project admin with minimal supervision.
- Ensure project filing is aligned with Plexus filing system and QA processes generally
- Be a key contact for the client and other third parties such as the contractor and represent calfordseaden and our values fully.
- Pass on your knowledge and experience to more junior team members to develop their abilities and confidence and in turn help develop the entire team.
- Follow company procedures and documentation in relation to the carrying out of the role
- Maintain training records in accordance with company procedures and continual professional development
- Update senior team members monthly on the status of portfolio of schemes, including fees;
What youll need:
Qualifications
- You will have a full knowledge of CDM Regulations and wider H&S Legislation
- You will be qualified to NEBOSH Certificate level (Construction or General)
- You will be qualified or will be working towards NEBOSH Diploma or similar Level 6 qualification (NVQ)
- You will have achieved technical membership of IOSH, achieved Incorporated Membership of the APS and working towards full membership of IIRSM
- You will be able to evidence that you are `maintaining technical knowledge and developing your competency through experience, continued training and CPD.
Knowledge
- You should have excellent technical knowledge, good communication skills and have a clear understanding of CDM 2015, health and safety legislation and the requirements of the Building Safety Act.
- A sound knowledge of building construction/construction site activities and an appetite for learning more
- A clear understanding of Risk Assessment, the Hierarchy of Control, the (H&S) responsibilities of an employer and the CDM Duties of the Principal Designer and the Client.
Skills
- A full and detailed working knowledge of CDM and H&S
- Experience of producing good quality written reports
- Capability working with figures and general mathematics
- Proficient in the use of basic Microsoft software (word, excel, MS Project etc)
- Proficient in the delivery of presentations, webinars, toolbox talks etc.
- Able to work without supervision and to supervise others
- Good communication skills (both written and verbal) Good people skills.
- You will be able to work on own initiative but accept guidance or constructive criticism as well as understanding own boundaries
- You will be able and open to assisting, supporting and mentoring more junior staff members.
- You will be open about any concerns and seek help/guidance where required and confident to speak up where problems or mistakes occur and seek assistance
